CEDAR RAPIDS - Stacey Walker of Cedar Rapids was sworn in Thursday as a Linn County supervisor, the first African-American to serve on the board.
Walker, 28, won the District 2 seat, a Cedar Rapids district. The district was vacated by Linda Langston earlier this year and filled until after the election by Amy Johnson, an appointee.
Walker, a Democrat, is co-chairman of the Safe, Equitable and Thriving Communities Task Force. After his election Nov. 8, Walker said, 'Linn County was organized 177 years ago, and this is the first time young African-American kids, growing up in the neighborhoods I grew up in, will be able to see an image of themselves reflected on their county board of government.”
