CEDAR RAPIDS - Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate has been appointed to the Council of State Governments' Executive and International committees.
The International Committee tracks and interprets international trends of importance to state governments. The Executive Committee helps guide the council's work.
Pate is a 2015 graduate of the council's Henry Toll Fellowship, an annual leadership development program designed to stimulate personal assessment and growth.
John Mountjoy, the council's director of policy and research, said Pate is committed to advancing the efforts of the council's Overseas Voting Initiative, designed to improve the return rate of overseas absentee ballots from service members and U.S. citizens living abroad.
The Council of State Governments is a region-based forum that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy.
Its Midwestern Legislative Conference annual meeting takes place July 9-12 at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown.
