The Sinclair property demolition project in Cedar Rapids is almost at its halfway point.
An average of 1,000 tons of debris is removed from the flood and fire damaged site each day. More than 500 tons of steel has been recycled from the demolition and more than 200 tons of concrete has been reused to back-fill deep foundation areas.
When the demolition project is complete in November, the city expects to remove over 100,000 tons of debris.
Workers from D.W. Zinser Co. use a small pneumatic jackhammer to demolish the smokestack at the former Sinclair Meat Packing plant Monday, July 19, 2010 in Cedar Rapids. Complete demolition of the smokestack will likely take a few weeks. (Brian Ray/ SourceMedia Group News)
