MARION - Joni Scotter of Marion, a longtime Republican activist, has been elected to the 2nd Congressional District GOP Central Committee.
She replaces David Chung, also of Linn County, who resigned earlier this year when he became involved in the campaign of 2010 gubernatorial hopeful Christian Fong.
Scotter has been active in local GOP politics as a campaign worker and as a leader of the Linn County Federation Republican Women. One officeholder called her the “equivalent of 20 ‘normal' volunteers.”
She has been co-chair of the Linn County GOP Central Committee twice as well as chair of the county organizations for Sen. Chuck Grassley and President George Bush, and coordinated phone backs in several election years.
Delegates to the 2nd District convention chose Scotter over Sarah Henderson of Cedar Rapids and Trudy Caviness of Ottumwa.
