Renters' assistance applications available starting today

Applications for the Renters' Personal Possessions Replacement Program will be available starting at noon today, city officials said.
Applicants can use the online application posted at www.Cedar-Rapids.org or pick up a paper copy at one of the following locations:
- Oakhill-Jackson Neighborhood Resource Center at St. Wenceslaus Church Gym Building, 510 16th Avenue SE
- Cedar Rapids City Hall, 3851 River Ridge Drive NE
- Cedar Rapids Neighborhoods Office, 625 First Avenue SE
The Oakhill-Jackson Neighborhood Resource Center and Cedar Rapids City Hall are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Cedar Rapids Neighborhoods Office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Applications for this program will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2011
The Renters' Personal Possessions Replacement Program provides up to $4,000 in assistance to eligible flood-impacted rental households to replace personal possessions lost or damaged in the flood of 2008. The program is funded through local option sales tax (LOST) revenues, and is designed to match federal funds previously received for personal flood recovery. The program is expected to provide assistance to about 2,000 residents with approximately $8 million from LOST. Initial payments could begin in January 2011.
