IOWA CITY - A couple dozen protesters gathered on the University of Iowa Pentacrest on Friday afternoon in support of workers' rights and in conjunction with similar events nationally celebrating Cesar Chavez, founder of the United Farm Workers Union who died in 1993.
The League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa hosted the Iowa City event, during which leaders specifically condemned Republican U.S. Rep. Steve King, who has been vocal about his controversial views on immigration and Western civilization.
Event organizers encouraged rally attendees to boycott Iowa businesses that have executives who have donated to King's election campaigns.
