Planned Parenthood says it will take abortion ban to court as protestors gather outside the Iowa State Capitol

A crowd of protestors gathered outside the Iowa State Capitol this morning, holding a rally in opposition to Senate File 359, calling on Gov. Reynolds to veto the fetal heartbeat bill.

Meanwhile, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland announced its intent to take the legislation to court if it is signed.

Planned Parenthood of the HeartlandPresident/CEO Suzanna de Baca announced the organization's plans at the rally.

"I am here to tell her, Gov. Reynolds, if you sign this bill, Planned Parenthood will see you in court. We will challenge this law with absolutely everything we have on behalf of our patients because Iowa will not go back,' de Baca said.

In a media release from Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, the org also argued against provisions being debated in the Health and Human Services budget bills that would reduce funding to Planned Parenthood for sex education.

'We need to face facts that young people have sex, and they also have rights,' said Andi Grubb, PPHeartland director of education. "They have a right to get age-appropriate, medically accurate information; the right to ask questions and get answers, without being shamed or judged; and the right to the information and skills they need to protect their health. It is a violation of their rights to deny them that information about how their bodies work.'
