The city of Cedar Rapids has acquired a prime downtown site for temporary use as parking during flood wall construction. In the long run, the $1.025 million property purchase will allow the city to seek redevelopment proposals to transform the vacant land.

New restrictions banning most abortions in Iowa will take effect Monday, July 29. District Court Judge Jeffrey Farrell issued an order dissolving an injunction that has blocked the new restrictions from going into place.
“I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” she said in the email to staff Tuesday. “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director.”
