Occupy protesters say they won't pay for grass repairs at Iowa City park
Occupy protesters have declined to pay for grass repairs at College Green Park in Iowa City.
Group members cleaned up the park on Wednesday as they left before the city's deadline.
Parks director Mike Moran says the heavy traffic during their occupation damaged the grass. The damage estimate is a little less than $2,300, and the repairs are expected to take a month or two.
Iowa City Attorney Eleanor Dilkes says the city can't enforce a fine on the Occupy group because the group is an unincorporated entity.
The Occupy movement began in New York, decrying what protesters see as corporate greed and the growing gap between rich and poor.
