More monthly parking spaces coming to downtown Cedar Rapids

In preparation for the beginning of demolition activities on the First Street parking ramp, Cedar Rapids Parking has added over 20 on-street monthly permit parking spaces to the southwest side of the Second Avenue bridge.

The temporary expansion was installed to accommodate parkers displaced from both the First Street parking ramp and the on-street permit spaces immediately surrounding the ramp.

Parking meters along the newly expanded 2nd Avenue bridge on-street monthly zones have been removed and “Permit Parking” signage has been installed.

On-Street monthly permit parking areas throughout downtown include:

• First Avenue Bridge (west half, both sides)
• Second Avenue Bridge (south side)
• Third Avenue Bridge (northeast side)
• First Street SE between 1st Ave and 2nd Avenue
• First Street SE between 5th Ave and 7th Avenue
• Sixth Avenue SE between 1st and 2nd Street

Access to the First Street parking ramp was closed on May 31, and access to the on-street spaces immediately surrounding the ramp will be closed to parkers beginning July 1.
