The City of Cedar Rapids is making improvements to First Avenue East, from 17th Street to Cottage Grove Avenue SE, through pavement rehabilitation and sanitary sewer replacement.
This improvement project includes removing the existing asphalt surface, repairing the existing underlying concrete pavement, replacing the existing sanitary sewer infrastructure, placing a new hot mix asphalt overlay and upgrading the traffic signals at the intersection of 19th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue.
Property owners directly impacted by this project will not be assessed for the cost of the improvements. The project will be funded by Iowa Department of Transportation maintenance funds and City Capital Improvement Program funds.
All residents are invited to a public information meeting about the construction project on Wednesday, May 5, at Washington High School, located at 2205 Forest Drive SE, in the meeting room off the main foyer, between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
During that time, residents can meet the design consultant, construction contractor and City staff, ask questions about the project and discuss the anticipated construction schedules and traffic impacts.
