Live in Scott County? Take a selfie for chance at Paul McCartney ticket

DAVENPORT - A Democrat running for the Scott County Board of Supervisors has unveiled an attention-getting way to promote his candidacy: a Paul McCartney concert ticket giveaway contest for people who find hidden, life-size cardboard cutouts of him and take a selfie with it.

The candidate, Ken Croken, said Friday he hopes the contest will be 'a fun way” to get voters involved.

The move, he said, is his alternative to political yard signs, which 'are multiplying like rabbits across Scott County.”

'I hope this tactic will engage voters, rather than attempt to overwhelm them,” Croken said in a statement. 'Scott County is especially beautiful this time of year, and I don't want to spoil the view with hundreds of signs.”

Starting this week, the campaign plans to put two cardboard cutouts of Croken in different spots around Scott County.

The cutouts will move around at least once a week, and clues to their location will be posted on the candidate's Facebook page.

McCartney, the bass-playing legend known for his songwriting with The Beatles, is scheduled to play at Moline's TaxSlayer Center in June 2019, a show that sold out in September less than an hour after tickets went on sale.

Croken will give away two tickets. The winner will be selected randomly after the Nov. 6 election.

The campaign says people can join in by emailing photos to rsvp@kencroken4scottcounty.com or posting the images on Facebook with the hashtag #CatchKenCroken.

Croken, a former marketing executive with Genesis Health System, is one of six candidates running for three seats on the five-member board.
