Linn County historic preservation grant applications now available

The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission is now accepting grant applications from non-profit organizations for the annual Historic Preservation Grant Program. Applications are available on the Linn County website at www.linncounty.org. This year, $28,800 is available. Grant funds must be used to preserve historic structures or artifacts; maintain a historical library or collection; conduct historical studies or research; issue publications; provide public lectures of historical interest; or otherwise disseminate knowledge of the history of the area to the general public.
Eligible applicants must be a non-profit organization located in Linn County. Due to legal restrictions, organizations under ecclesiastical or sectarian management are not eligible. Completed applications are due Monday, April 2, 2012 by 5 p.m. This is a competitive grant program.
The Linn County Historic Preservation Commission will host an informational workshop about the grant program on Saturday, March 3, 2011, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. There is no cost for the workshop; however, those attending should call (319) 892-5117 or email jan.every@linncounty.org to reserve a spot. The workshop will be held at the Coggon fire station, 101 N. Railroad Street in Coggon.
