CEDAR RAPIDS - The Linn County Democratic Party will honor four members at the annual Hall of Fame Celebration at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Long Branch Hotel & Convention Center in Cedar Rapids.
Being inducted into the party's Hall of Fame are Helane Golden, Harvey Ross, Sen. Wally Horn and Phyllis Peterson.
Tickets are $50 for individuals and $500 for table sponsorships. Tickets may be purchased online at demgood.org or by sending a check made out to the Linn County Democratic Party to Financial Secretary, 2647 29th Ave., Marion IA 52302.
Before the event, at 5 p.m. the county party and Phoenix Club host a meet-and-greet reception for former Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander. Tickets for the reception are an additional $50.
While serving his first term, Kander unsuccessfully ran for the U.S. Senate. Upon leaving office in 2017, he formed Let America Vote to combat voter suppression and gerrymandering. The group plans to open an office in Iowa and target the races for governor, secretary of state and selected legislative seats.
Kander, who is sometimes mentioned as a potential 2020 presidential nominee, speaks frequently at Democratic Party events.
Jason Kander, former Missouri secretary of state and Army National Guard captain, speaks to attendees at the 2017 Iowa Democratic Wing Ding in Clear Lake on Friday, Aug. 11. Kander founded the 'Let America Vote' organization after a narrow U.S. Senate election defeat in 2016 to Republican incumbent Roy Blunt. (Lynda Waddington/The Gazette)
