Johnson County employee disciplined

A clerk in the Johnson County Treasurer's Office has been disciplined for unspecified reasons.
The action came as the county's Board of Supervisors considered a grievance from the employee, Mandy Warson, that was filed by her union, the Public Professional and Maintenance Employees Local 2003.
The supervisors went into closed session June 23 “to discuss employee disciplinary matters” related to the grievance.
On June 30, the board voted 3-1 to deny the grievance in part and uphold it in part, according to an audio recording of the meeting.
The board suspended Warson without pay from June 7 to June 30 and reinstated her unused sick leave.
It was not specified what parts of the grievance were denied and what were upheld. Also unclear was why the suspension was retroactive, why Warson was disciplined and why she filed the grievance.
County officials, citing state law that allows certain personnel matters to be kept confidential, said they could not say anything more than what was discussed in open session during the meetings.
Warson declined to comment for this story.
A union official did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
Warson has been employed continuously with the county since May 1, 2008, according to the Human Resources Department.
Supervisors Chairman Pat Harney cast the dissenting vote, saying he did not necessarily disagree with the decision but felt more discussion was needed. Terrence Neuzil was not at Thursday's meeting.
