Johnson County approves budget

IOWA CITY - The Johnson County Board of Supervisors approved Thursday night a $73.9 million budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
The budget puts the tax levy for unincorporated areas at $10.40 per $1,000 of taxable value. The levy for property within city limits will be $7.23. Those new levies are 4.1 percent and 2.3 percent higher, respectively, than this year.
The owners of a $100,000 home in rural areas will pay $33.29 more in county taxes next year than this year. Iowa City homeowners will pay $5.93 more, and people in other cities will pay an additional $2.10.
The owners of $100,000 in rural agricultural land will pay $39.71 more than this year.
