Michael Kiernan is resigning as chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party.
The party's executive director, Norm Sterzenbach, told The Des Moines Register on Wednesday that Kiernan is leaving because of personal reasons.
Sterzenbach declined to give additional details.
Kiernan, who became chairman last year, was to hold a news conference Wednesday afternoon at party headquarters in Des Moines.
The 35-year-old Kiernan has worked as a partner in a business that renovates old homes in Des Moines. His wife, Erin, is a news anchor for WHO-TV.
