IOWA CITY -- The Downtown Iowa City Self Supported Municipal Improvement District Board of Directors voted Wednesday to operate the organization as the Iowa City Downtown District.
The Iowa City Downtown District sought input from its member businesses and property owners as well as the Iowa City area community in creating the new operating name. The Board of Directors chose the operating name from a number of submissions due in part to the fact that it was clear, concise and able to accurately represent a broad geographic and demographic landscape.
The Iowa City Downtown District is a non-profit organization funded through contributions from property taxes assessed to properties in Downtown Iowa City and the Northside Marketplace and financial support from The University of Iowa. The organization provides leadership and undertakes programs to promote and sustain Downtown Iowa City as a unique and economically viable business, entertainment, social and cultural center.
The legal name for the Iowa City Downtown District will remain the Downtown Iowa City Self Supported Municipal Improvement District.
