IOWA CITY - Christopher Guidry is wasting no time in getting to work as Iowa City's new clerk.
Guidry, 42, of Iowa City, who most recently worked as an education technology consultant and as director of workforce solutions at ACT, plans to begin his new job on Wednesday, one day after members of the Iowa City Council unanimously approved his appointment by a vote of 7-0.
Guidry said that while he doesn't necessarily have a background in city government, he has always been 'fascinated” with the city council and applying for the clerk position was a way to get further involved.
'I hope that I'll be able to bring some fresh eyes to the position,” Guidry said. 'Obviously, customer service is key, working with the public. The taxpayers of Iowa City are our clients and we want to treat them the best way we can.”
Mayor Jim Throgmorton said Guidry's employment history is a positive.
'I'm very pleased that Chris will be joining us, joining the community of employees in city government,” Throgmorton said.
Council documents show Guidry is expected to earn a salary of $87,000.
He replaces longtime city clerk Marian Karr, who served in the office for more than 30 years. She retired at the end of December.
