A board member and the board's executive director have left Iowa's Board of Parole, citing friction among their reasons.
The Des Moines Register reports that executive director Clarence Key Jr. says he chafed under the management style of board chairwoman Doris Kelley and feared that a provision in an Iowa Senate budget bill would abolish his job.
Board member Elizabeth Robinson told the newspaper on Tuesday that she retired April 12 because of her health problems and discord among board members.
Kelley says her contact with Key has been limited since her appointment in January 2011.
In comments to the newspaper, Kelley and Key disagreed on whether he worked a full 40-hour workweek.
