Iowa airport projects to get $5.3 million

Airport improvements in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Dubuque will get a slice of $5.3 million in funds from a 2012 state aviation program approved Tuesday, July 12, by the Iowa Transportation Commission
Nearly $3 million of the funds will go for aviation safety and aviation planning and development programs. The projects include maintenance of aviation weather systems, runway markings and air service development.
Another $2.3 million will go for aviation vertical infrastructure programs, such as aircraft hangars and terminal buildings.
Eastern Iowa airports were funded for the following projects:
- Eastern Iowa Airport: $93,500 toward the installation of thermoplastic airfield signs and $328,020 toward renovation of the airport terminal and relocation of the baggage screening area.
- Decorah Municipal Airport: $11,900 toward a $17,000 pavement rehabilitation project.
- Dubuque Regional Airport: $110,137 toward construction of a $8.7 million terminal building.
- Iowa City Municipal Airport: $107,100 toward rehabilitation of the exterior building and windsock lighting, $37,400 toward security enhancements and $100,300 toward rehabilitation of the terminal building.
- Maquoketa Airport: $36,148 toward a $42,962 project to rehabilitate a maintenance hangar and replace the roof.
- Monticello Municipal: $65,999 toward a $103,124 project to rehabilitate a maintenance hangar and terminal and $3,500 toward a $5,000 pavement rehabilitation project.
- Tipton Municipal Airport: $17,500 toward a $25,000 fuel tank replacement project.
- Vinton Veterans Municipal: $36,105 toward a $43,888 runway seal coating,pavement rehabilitation and crack-filling project.
