Governor Street bridge closing Monday in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - Drivers in Iowa City will be without the Governor Street bridge over Ralston Creek until this summer. The one-way street is the main northbound artery to Highway 1 North.
The closure between Iowa Avenue and Jefferson Street is scheduled start at 6:30 a.m. Monday and will affect cars and pedestrians. The Iowa Department of Transportation is replacing the bridge.
Construction will likely last through June.
The detour for drivers will be via Gilbert Street to Jefferson Street, and then turning left onto Governor Street to avoid the closed bridge. Pedestrians should use Lucas Street to Jefferson Street. Detour signs will be posted.
