Iowa's United Food and Commercial Workers union has endorsed state Sen. Nate Boulton, D-Des Moines, for governor.
The campaign announced the decision Tuesday.
'Nate has always had the backs of workers, from being our lawyer at Local 1149 to leading the charge to defend collective bargaining as state senator,” Roger Kail, the union's president, said in a statement.
'We know as governor, he will fight for every Iowan to earn a living wage, have the right to a union, and have a safe work environment. The UFCW is proud to be running with Nate.”
The union represents more than 9,600 Iowans statewide.
Boulton, a first-term state senator, is one of seven Democrats seeking the party's nomination to run for governor next year.
A labor lawyer, he first got statewide notice during the Iowa Senate debate earlier this year on the Republican proposal to curtail the union rights of most public-sector workers.
The campaign said it has received 28 endorsements from labor unions.
