The Iowa Statehouse can be seen behind 2,977 flags that have been set into the Capitol grounds this week. The flags were placed in honor of those men and women who were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. Gov. Terry Branstad also ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff from 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 through 8 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, in honor of Iowa service members who have been killed since Sept. 11, 2001.
