First Clean Up CR drop-off event a success

The first of four Clean Up CR Drop-off Events was held Saturday, September 17 at the Public Works Building on 6th Street and Wilson Middle School. The event was a resounding success, collecting the following from Cedar Rapids Residents:
- 9.01 tons of wood waste that will be recycled into fuel that is used as an alternative to coal and oil
- 18.58 tons of bulky items that were sent to the landfill
- 719 tires that will be recycled
- 1.12 tons of plastic garbage cans that will be recycled
- 120 cubic yards of scrap metal that will be recycled
- 100 cubic yards of electronics that will be recycled
- 5.47 cubic yards of household hazardous materials that will be processed and disposed of or recycled when possible
The next Clean Up CR Drop-off event is this coming Saturday, September 24 at Noelridge Pool (1248 42nd St. NE) and Rockwell Collins (855 35th St. NE, please enter from 35th Street) from 10am to 2pm. Both locations will collect furniture and other bulky items, clothing, wood waste, home electronics, scrap metal, tires, and garbage cans. Household Hazardous materials will only be accepted at the Noelridge Pool location. Items will not be accepted before 10 am or after 2pm. More information is available at www.cleanupcr.com.
