Fire department accepting applications for firefighter positions

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department is currently accepting applications for Firefighter positions.  As a part of the City of Cedar Rapids, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department is dedicated to quality customer service as reflected in our Mission Statement: "The mission of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department is to mitigate threats to the health and property of our community through emergency response, quality education and prevention programs.”

Application packets are available on the Fire Department's Web site at www.cedar-rapids.org/fire.  Applicants must download and read an informational packet before completing their application.  This informational packet is also available for download on the departmental Web site.  Completed applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2012.

Firefighter candidates must have either a State of Iowa or National Registry EMT certification and be a certified Firefighter I by the date of the written examination (Wednesday, August 1, 2012).

There are 149 employees of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.  The Fire Department responded to 9,886 incidents in 2011, including fires, sudden illness, traumatic injuries, and hazardous materials releases.  The Department also provides fire inspection, public education, and community outreach programs.
