Experts to hold seminar to explain floods of 2008

A variety of experts will participate in a Monday June 21 seminar geared at building understanding about the 2008 floods and how Iowans can better plan and prepare for future flooding.
The seminar, presented by local and state officials and academic experts, includes a variety of short presentations including trends on participation, trends on run-off, floodplain management strategies, water quality issues and building rural-urban watershed coalitions. The session will also include a question and answer session.
The free session will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the Kirkwood College Training and Outreach Services Building, 3375 Armar Dr. in Marion. A liminted number of free copies of the book “A Watershed Year: Anatomy of the Iowa Floods of 2008? will be available.
The Cedar Valley Montessori School is returning next school year to its space in the Cedar Rapids Ground Transportation Center (left, with the downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library at right). The school has operated out of a temporary location since the floods of 2008. (Perry Walton/P&N Air)
