Early voting underway for school board elections in Linn County

Early voting has begun for Linn County's Sept. 12 school board elections.

In-person voting started Thursday in the election services department of the Linn County Auditor's Office, located in the Jean Oxley Linn County Public Service Center, 935 Second St. SW., according to a county news release.

The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

Voters also can request an absentee ballot by mail. Ballots must be returned by mail or hand-delivered on or before Sept. 11.

Early voting starts Monday for Johnson County voters at the Auditor's Office, located in the Johnson County Administration Building, 913 S. Dubuque St. The office is open from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.

Precinct polling locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day — Sept. 12 — in both counties.

For voters in the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City metro area, most ballots include candidates running for three four-year terms on the school board.

In Iowa City, a fourth two-year seat is on the ballot to fill the remainder of LaTasha DeLoach's term. DeLoach resigned in July.

In the Marion Independent School District, only two people are running for three seats.

Three districts in the metro area also have school bond issues on the ballot. Iowa City district voters are deciding a $191.5 million bond, the biggest ever in the state.

An $80 million bond is on the ballot in the Linn-Mar Community School District, and a $36 million bond is being put to voters in the Clear Creek Amana Community School District.
