Double-digit COVID-19 increases reported in Johnson and Linn County

The state on Thursday reported 358 new positive COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, with double-digit increases in Johnson and Linn counties.

Johnson County reported 24 new cases.

Linn County reported 19 new cases, the largest one-day increase since May 6.

The new cases pushed Linn's total COVID-19 cases to 1,048, the sixth highest number in Iowa's 99 counties.

Johnson County's cases now total 685, the state's eighth highest number.

Six additional deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, bringing the statewide total to 677.

Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion, one of the long-term care facilities with outbreaks - defined as three or more residents and staff testing positive - reported 17 cases and six recovered.

Mitchell Village Care Center in Polk County was removed from the outbreak list.

Of the 5,194 Iowans tested in the past 24 hours, 4,836 tested negative for the coronavirus and 359 tested positive, for a 6.9 percent positive rate.
