Czech Village utility work to begin next week
Dec. 5, 2016 7:02 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS - A key step for the west side flood protection system is to get underway next week near the Cedar River in Czech Village.
A utility relocation project is set to begin the week of Dec. 12. This includes relocating water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer utilities to accommodate a future levee. Traffic and business impacts are to be minimal during this phase of construction, according to city officials.
Activity is to take place in the area west of A Street SW mainly between C Street and A Street SW. Work is to proceed as long as the weather permits and is to then resume next spring.
Cedar Rapids City Council awarded Rathje Construction the $3.2 million contract at its Nov. 15 meeting. Rathje has 110 working days to complete the work.
