Culver says Branstad ‘flat out wrong’ on Cedar Rapids flood recovery

Aug. 13, 2010 2:43 pm
Terry Branstad has some explaining to do, Gov. Chet Culver said today.
A day after Branstad was in Cedar Rapids criticizing the first-term Democrat's handling of flood recovery, Culver fired back, blasting Branstad for being “out of touch and disengaged.”
“For him to go over there and criticize us is flat out wrong,” Culver said from Des Moines. “He has no idea what he's talking about.”
Branstad has a lot of explaining to justify to Eastern Iowans why he's opposed to over $300 million of direct state assistance for flood recovery,” Culver said. Branstad, Culver added, has not offered an alternative to his administration's approach.
“I don't know how he gets one vote in Cedar Rapids, Iowa,” Culver said. “He is against $113 million of flood recovery. He is against rebuilding the Czech and Slovak museum. He is against rebuilding the Cedar Rapids Public Library. He's against the human services center, against rebuilding the Paramount, the administrative building.
“He is against everything Mayor (Ron) Corbett and your local officials are for in terms of flood recovery,” Culver added.
