CEDAR RAPIDS - City leaders pushed back the public hearing and vote on what has become a controversial affordable housing apartment complex off Edgewood Road NW.
Due to the flood, the city development services department requested to delay the hearing and vote to rezone land at 1200 Edgewood Road NW. The City Council voted to reschedule the hearing and first vote to Oct. 25.
Commonbond Communities wants to build the $9 million Crestwood Ridge Apartments, which devotes most of the units to lower income residents and five as permanent housing for homeless people.
Neighbors petitioned against it citing a variety of reasons, which triggered a requirement for a three-fourths majority vote by the City Council to pass.
