Corbett called 'most influential' in Corridor by business journal
Dec. 7, 2010 10:46 am
Mayor Ron Corbett has been named the "most influential" leader in The Corridor for 2010 by the Corridor Business Journal.
Sally Mason, president of the University of Iowa, topped the list a year ago when Corbett, then mayor-elect of Cedar Rapids, ranked fifth.
In his mayoral campaign a year ago, Corbett said City Hall had embraced "a culture of delay" that he wanted to change.
The weekly business journal, with its office in Coralville, credits Corbett with creating a new "culture of action" at City Hall during his year in office.
The journal notes that Corbett, 50, has pushed hard for federal flood-recovery funds and federal flood-protection support. It notes three Corbett-led initiatives that have not been without controversy: a buy-local policy; closing a stretch of Second Avenue SE for a new medical mall; and purchasing with plans to renovate the long-struggling Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel as part of the city's new Convention Complex project.
