Center Point council decides against separate precinct

Center Point's city council has decided not to seek an election precinct for the city, clearing the way for the Linn County redistricting commission to finish its work tonight.
The council voted Thursday not to request the commission redraw its proposed election map to create a precinct for the city, a move that had been under consideration. That means Center Point's votes will be cast with those of surrounding Washington Township until 2021, the next redistricting after the biennial census.
That means Thursday night's redistricting commission meeting should be its last.
"They can just forward the plans to the board (of supervisors)," said Darrin Gage, the county's director of policy and administration.
