CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids was ranked the No. 19 best run city in the country, according to a new survey.
The personal finance website WalletHub.com ranked Cedar Rapids as the No. 19 overall best-run in the United States. That's the highest rank in Iowa, and up 30 places from last year.
'How do we measure the effectiveness of local leadership?” the report stated. 'One way is by determining a city's operating efficiency. In other words, we can learn how well city officials manage and spend public funds by comparing the quality of services residents receive against the city's total budget.”
The survey evaluated the 150 largest cities in the country based on total budget per capita and quality of services, which includes 33 performance points. The indicators are grouped into six service categories: financial stability, education, health, safety, economy, and infrastructure and pollution.
In the subcategories, Cedar Rapids ranked No. 11 for best city services and No. 39 in budget per capita.
'Providing high quality service in the most efficient way possible is always the goal of city employees, management and council,” Cedar Rapids City Manager Jeff Pomeranz said. 'To receive national recognition for our management and quality of service from a respected organization like WalletHub shows yet another reason why Cedar Rapids is one of the best cities to live ─ not only in Iowa, but in the country.”
Nampa, Idaho was the top ranked city overall.
