Cedar Rapids officials to hold news conference at 3 p.m. regarding impending flooding
Cedar Rapids city officials will be holding a news conference at 3 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers to provide details regarding flood protection plans ahead of the expected crest of the Cedar River.
Speakers will include Cedar Rapids Mayor Brad Hart and Public Works Director Jen Winters.
Current flood level predictions from the National Weather Service show the Cedar River cresting at 16.5 feet midday Thursday, and hovering around that height for the next few days.
16 feet is considered major flood stage for the Cedar River in Cedar Rapids.
However, this projection only includes rainfall estimations for the next 24 hours, so as forecasts shift, the projected crest can adjust.
