Branstad names Mullins to Iowa Court of Appeals

Jun. 9, 2011 9:48 am
DES MOINES – The Iowa Court of Appeals has a new member.
He's Michael R. Mullins, 59, of Washington, who received his law degree from Drake University in 1982 and has served as a district court judge in Iowa Judicial District 8A since 2002.
Mullins was appointed today by Gov. Terry Branstad to fill a vacancy on the Iowa Court of Appeals that occurred when the governor earlier this year named former appeals court Justice Edward Mansfield to the Iowa Supreme Court.
Mullins was one of three nominees selected by the State Judicial Nominating Commission that were forward to Branstad for consideration. The other two finalists to fill the appeals court vacancy were Susan Christensen, 49, of Harlan, a district associate judge in Iowa's 4th Judicial District since 2007, and Bruce Kempkes, 55, or Earlham, who currently is serving as an Iowa assistant attorney general.
