Former Gov. Terry Branstad says he may seek Iowa's top office again.
Branstad says in Sunday's edition of The Des Moines Register that when it comes to another run for Iowa governor he's, “not ruling it out, because I care deeply about the state.”
The Republican says he's interested in turning Iowa's economy around, getting the budget under control, being fiscally responsible and focusing on economic development.
Branstad told the newspaper he was not ready to make a final decision right now.
Since 2003, Branstad has been president of the osteopathic medical school Des Moines University. He was first elected Iowa governor in 1982 and served four consecutive terms for 16 years until he decided not to seek re-election in 1998.
