Block by Block update

Minor projects associated with the Block by Block program are continuing. Volunteers are in the flood-affected area doing jobs such as painting, landscaping and other tasks.
In the meantime, the program is testing a handful of homes for asbestos that require major renovation and/or demolition work. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has launched an investigation to determine whether volunteers and/or homeowners may have been exposed to asbestos.
Right now, the DNR has asked Block by Block to test approximately 14 homes. However, the agency could require Block by Block to inspect and test for asbestos in all properties the group has worked on or renovated.
