Some of the Gazette-area performances were better on Day 2 of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Class 4A state golf meet Tuesday at Hyperion Field Club in Johnston. Cedar Rapids Xavier placed eighth in the team race, while Linn-Mar senior Christian Cloyd tied for 15th.

Cedar Rapids Xavier started the Class 4A boys’ golf season at South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo Thursday, setting a school record with 289 to win the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet.

Here are nine golfers and four teams to watch for the upcoming Class 4A season. Competition begins Thursday with the Mississippi Valley Conference Super Meet at South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo.

Harrison Hartke fired 1-under 69 Wednesday at Elmcrest Country Club for a four-round total of 287 to win the Pribyl boys’ open division title. Hayley Morris claimed the girls’ open championship with 238 total, winning by 15 strokes.

Cedar Rapids Washington’s Shaylin Munson and Cedar Rapids Xavier’s Hayley Morris enjoyed successful varsity seasons in the spring. They are winding down the summer, contending for an individual title at the Rotary Pribyl golf tournament.
