For our weather in the Cedar Rapids area today, according to the National Weather Service, we have a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. Partly sunny today, with a high near 83. Winds from the east, 5 to 15 mph, then coming from the south in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Tonight, we’re expecting a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m. and a low around 69.
An Illinois man faces a series of charges, including eluding police and drunken-driving, after police allege he crashed his car onto the lawn of the University of Iowa President’s Residence early Saturday after a short, high-speed chase. Ira J. Wright IV, 18, of Vernon Hills, Illinois, was taken into custody around 1:30 a.m. A passerby caught the arrest on video, which can be seen at thegazette.com.
The Iowa Hawkeyes beat the Iowa State Cyclones, 27-17, at the Cy-Hawk football game Saturday at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. While Iowa forced four turnovers, Iowa State wasn’t able to force any. In the new Associated Press Top 25, which came out Sunday afternoon, Iowa is No. 5, the highest September ranking in 36 years.
