According to the National Weather Service, we can expect a mostly sunny day in the Cedar Rapids area, with a high near 37. Winds from the southeast 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Then tonight it will be mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 33. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
An Iowa City woman and a Columbus Junction teenager have been charged with attempted murder and robbery of a Coralville man who was shot while in his car in an apartment complex parking lot in Washington, Iowa, earlier this month. 19-year-old Mya Wright and 17-year-old Jaden Miller had arranged to meet a 41-year-old Coralville man on Jan. 7th for a drug transaction. The two had conspired with the intent to commit a robbery, according to a Washington County criminal complaint. About 8 p.m., during the attempted robbery, Miller fired a single shot from a handgun, striking the Coralville man in his torso as he was sitting in his car, according to a Washington Police Department news release and the criminal complaint. Miller and Wright are being held on $500,000 cash-only bond, according to court records. Each charge is a Class B felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
An Iowa City man was jailed Friday night on a charge of first-degree theft after stuffing his jacket pockets with $11,838 in cash while depositing money into a Walmart safe Wednesday in Coralville, according to a police department criminal complaint. 18-year-old Brandon Jarvis was seen on surveillance video handling and depositing money into a safe at the Walmart store at 2801 Commerce Dr. The complaint said Jarvis was seen folding a wad of cash and placing it into his left jacket pocket, then folding another wad and placing it into his right pocket. Still more cash was dispensed from the safe and stuffed into a jacket pocket. First-degree theft is a Class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
