According to the National Weather Service, it will be sunny in the Cedar Rapids area today, with a high near 28. It’ll be blustery, with a northwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Then tonight, we’re expecting a low around 13.
Iowa City police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting that injured a man early Sunday at the Old Capitol Town Center parking ramp. In a news release, police said they arrested 21-year-old Darnell Martin, Jr., of Coralville, and 18-year-old Mason Ward, of Cedar Rapids. They each face a charge of reckless use of a firearm causing property damage. The release said police responded at 1:25 a.m. Sunday to a report of shots fired at the ramp at 220 S. Capitol St. Officers found evidence that multiple shots were fired. One man was taken to a hospital with what police believe is a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
The No. 15 Iowa Hawkeyes will be playing in the Vrbo Citrus Bowl against No. 22 Kentucky on Jan. 1 at noon Central Time. The Citrus Bowl is the most prestigious bowl with a Big Ten affiliation outside of the New Year’s Six bowls. The Hawkeyes fell out of the New Year’s Six conversation after Michigan thumped them, 42-3, in Saturday’s Big Ten Championship Game. The matchup will pit Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops against his alma mater. Stoops played for the Hawkeyes in the late 1980s and then was a graduate assistant under then-coach Hayden Fry.
