IOWA VALLEY 49, DON BOSCO 34 — In a battle of Gazette preseason top-10 teams in 8-player, it was the Tigers who came out on top.
After a physical, even first half that ended in a 14-14 tie, the Tigers pulled away with a big third quarter, scoring five touchdowns in the third.
Nolan Kriegel took the opening play of the second half for 65 yards, and on the next possession Layne Peska scored from 64 out on a double reverse. Peska added a 49-yard rushing score later in the quarter.
Kriegel totaled five touchdowns in the game (three rushing, one passing and one receiving).

INDEPENDENCE 46, NORTH FAYETTE VALLEY 14 — Christopher Meyer did a little bit of everything last night for the Mustangs, rushing for 121 yards and three touchdowns and passing for 231 and two more.
Meyer completed 13 of 19 passes, hitting Zeke Symonds and Cael Troutman for TDs. He rushed 6, 11 and 51 yards for this other three scores.
Bryce Christian was his favorite target, catching 5 passes for 66 yards.
Ryan Griffith rushed for 50 yards for the Tigerhawks.
ANAMOSA 20, MAQUOKETA 7 — Hudson Scranton rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Reilly Shaw added 62 yards and another score as the Raiders rolled in Maquoketa.
Anamosa totaled 277 yards of offense, holding Maquoketa to just 144.

WEST BRANCH 35, WEST LIBERTY 21 — Keaton Gates rushed for 274 yards and two scores to lead the Bears to a season-opening game victory at home.
West Branch rushed for 371 yards as a team.
West Liberty quarterback Devin Miracle passed for 286 yards.

DECORAH 42, WAUKON 16 — Tanner Caddell passed for 133 yards and two touchdowns and Trevor Kuennen rushed or 85 yards and a score as the Vikings rolled on the road.
Caddell found Noah Milburn for 26-yard TD on Decorah’s first possession and later hit Peyton Webb for a 19-yard touchdown strike.
The Vikings led 14-8 at the half and scored twice in the third quarter. Kuennen ran for a 32-yard touchdown in the fourth.
Noah Milburn caught four passes for 64 yards.

MOUNT VERNON 56, MONTICELLO 12 — Following a brief lightning delay in the first quarter, the Mustangs finished off a huge first half to lead 49-12 and rolled to win at Monticello.
Mount Vernon quarterback Kellen Haverback passed for 374 yards and three touchdowns, while Jase Jaspers caught eight passes for 128 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 36 yards and three TDs.
A 27-yard touchdown pass from Conley Schauf to Alex Jamison got the Panthers on the board in the first quarter, then a 93-yard kickoff return from Isaac Kray made it 28-12 with 11:38 left in the second quarter.

SOLON 44, DAVENPORT ASSUMPTION 13 — The Spartans secured an opening night victory behind quarterback Eli Kampan’s 272 passing yards and five touchdowns.
Solon held a 22-13 lead at halftime before Spartans wide receiver Kaden Hoeper snagged a contested catch over the top of the defender and took it 80 yards for a touchdown. Assumption 67 passing yards while Solon secured 272 passing yards and 109 rushing yards.
Hoeper secured five receptions for 174 yards and two 70-plus yard touchdowns while fellow receiver Maddox Kelley snagged nine receptions for 84 yards and three touchdowns. Assumption quarterback Luke Jobgen logged just 67 passing yards but racked up 84 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
