Titans get by Billings in double overtime, 45-38

The Cedar Rapids Titans traveled to Billings, Mont., Sunday for their first road game of the season and needed double overtime to get past the expansion Billings Wolves, 45-38.

Cedar Rapids improves to 2-1 this season.

Quarterback Sam Durley ran for a touchdown and threw for another as Cedar Rapids led 20-16 at halftime, but the Titans failed to score a touchdown in the second half.

All-IFL kicker Rockne Belmonte tied the game at 31-31 with a 50-yard field goal to force overtime, and Durley connected on touchdown strikes in each of the extra frames.

After a 5-yard completion from the Cedar Rapids 20-yard line in the second overtime, the Titans defense forced three-straight incompletions from Billings quarterback Darakate Britt to seal the victory.

Durley finished with 95 passing yards. His 10 passing touchdowns through three games leads the league. Receiver Bryan Pray caught four passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns, pushing his league-leading touchdown reception total to six.

Running back Washaun Ealey ran for 61 yards and caught four passes for 17 yards, including the go-ahead 7-yard touchdown in the second overtime.

Britt threw for 64 yards and four scores for Billings (0-2).

Cedar Rapids hosts Tri-Cities Friday at 7:05 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center.
