Second-String Sportswriters Football Selections
Oct. 1, 2010 7:10 am
We've got faces for radio and voices for the newspaper. This week a few of us SourceMedia Group sportswriters will make the same selections on our multiple websites as the stars who appear in the Saturday morning version of The Gazette. Here's our chance to shine:
JEFF JOHNSON
- Iowa 24, Penn State 10 – Who's older, Joe Paterno or Mike Hlas?
- Iowa State 24, Texas Tech 23 – Just a hunch. Or maybe it's just gas.
- Michigan State 24, Wisconsin 21 – You'll be able to count the passes in this game on two hands. OK, maybe three.
- Last week: 2-1; Overall: 8-4
SCOTT DOCHTERMAN
- Iowa 24, Penn State 10 - The real question is will Joe Paterno get frisked in Krause Family Plaza on the way to Kinnick Stadium?
- Texas Tech 38, Iowa State 34 - The Red Raiders are debating about whether or not to cancel their trip to the Des Moines River pirate museum on Saturday morning.
- Wisconsin 17, Michigan State 10 - There are some really bad analogies that I could make but will avoid on a public forum.
- Last week: 3-0; Overall: 9-3
JEFF LINDER
- Iowa 23, Penn State 14 – Black in the odd numbers, gold in the even numbers. Bet somebody blows it.
- Texas Tech 31, Iowa State 21 – What Big 12 team will Iowa State beat? Anyone? Anyone?
- Michigan State 27, Wisconsin 24 – Spartans' fake field goal against Notre Dame earns them my pick.
- Last week: 3-0; Overall: 11-1
K.J. PILCHER
- Iowa 17, Penn State 10 – Joe Pa choosing to start a freshman QB? Next up is Joe Pa “dropping it like it's hot”.
- Texas Tech 27, Iowa State 14 – What's Lubbock going to be like when concussion sufferers aren't locked in boiler rooms during practice anymore?
- Wisconsin 24, Michigan State 21 – SourceMedia Group News multimedia journalist Scott Dochterman once wrote, “A flute with no holes is not a flute, and a doughnut with no holes is a Danish.”
- Last week: 3-0; Overall: 10-2
