Report: Iowa State's Chase Allen hit by car, receives 103 stitches
Jul. 26, 2016 3:15 pm
AMES — Chase Allen is no stranger to hits within the lines of a football field.
But the freshman tight end was dealt a different kind of blow last week.
The son of former UNI, Kansas and Missouri State head coach and ISU assistant Terry Allen, Chase Allen was walking across the street near the Bergstrom Football Complex in Ames when he was struck by a car.
Allen told the Springfield News-Leader he reacted just in time to avoid a more direct collision.
Allen landed on the car windshield, shattered it on impact and sent glass fragments into his back. He was able to get up from the accident and although he avoided head injuries and broken bones, he was taken to an emergency room by Iowa State coaches.
The accident left Allen with 103 stitches in his back.
'The coaches were there with me in the E.R., and I'll be cleared when the stitches heal up,' Allen told the News-Leader. '(It) could have been so much worse.'
