Postseason can be a time to recharge and reflect

CEDAR RAPIDS - The postseason for some athletes can be spent in many ways.
Some focus on another sport, some toward the future. Others spend a bit more time reminiscing the past season.
The end of the football season at Cedar Rapids Xavier brought big changes for some on the team.
Senior Kyle Krezek said he wants to do more service for the community and spend time thinking about college.
'The past years I have wrestled in the offseason season, along with still training hard in the weight room and conditioning,” he said. 'I decided not to this year because I felt like I would be piling too much on my plate and that I wouldn't be able to dedicate all my time and energy to the team and my teammates.”
The football team finished the job it started in the fall, going undefeated (12-0) for the second straight season and winning the Class 3A state title again.
Now some players are adjusting to the offseason, going from daily football practices to a sudden amount of free time. It can leave some more time on their hands to reflect.
'After we won the championship that Thursday, that Friday was just unreal because for three months you've been to practice for three to four hours, don't get home 'til 7-7:15 every night, and then you just get to go home right away after school and it's shocking because its just over,” senior Nate Skala said. 'You love it so much and can't believe it's gone. Then feeling like not doing it again next year is tough because we had such a great group of guys and we did something really special. Then having it end right now, it's good but it's sad at the same time.”
