Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder announced Monday that he will guide the team through the 2016 season.
The 76-year-old Snyder assessed his situation with his family and made it clear he isn't ready to retire.
'Following our bowl game against Arkansas, I had a chance to visit with my family, and they collectively wanted me to do what I wanted to do and none were against my decision to return,” Snyder said in a statement, 'as long as I am having a positive impact on the young people in our program, my health is in order and as long as I am wanted by the University and the wonderful Kansas State fan base.”
The Wildcats went 6-7 this past season, Snyder's 24th at Kansas State. He has compiled a 193-101-1 mark at the school and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame last month.
Snyder was an assistant under Hayden Fry at Iowa from 1979-88 before turning around the Wildcats' program.
Snyder began his tenure at Kansas State in 1989 and originally retired after the 2005 season. He returned as coach in 2009 and athletic director John Currie is pleased that Snyder will again be on the sidelines.
'We are all grateful for the incredible leadership of Coach Snyder and I was delighted when he affirmed to me that he plans to continue,” Currie said.
Kansas State visits Iowa State on Oct. 29.
