West Delaware beats Independence in rivalry matchup of No. 3 and No. 6-ranked teams in Class 3A

The regular season ended with a bang in the smaller Iowa high school football classes, with three unbeaten matchups and four games between ranked teams on the schedule Friday night.
The top-ranked teams in Class 1A and Class A — Van Meter and West Hancock — handled fellow 7-0 foes in Guthrie Center ACGC and North Butler. But 2A No. 1 Southeast Valley suffered its first loss, 21-14 to Spirit Lake.
The other three classes also had ranked matchups in their penultimate regular-season week.
Here’s a look at how the 70 teams ranked in the Gazette poll fared in Week 8.
